What We Do

Government Affairs & Advocacy

GPHA serves as the principal advocate of the hotel industry in the Philadelphia region, furthering its interests through civic representation, education efforts, community partnerships, and increased marketing presence. GPHA also takes a position on legislation that directly or indirectly affects our members. Our recent lobbying efforts have saved our members millions of dollars in reduced taxes, permit fees, and improved guests experience.

The Voice of the Region’s Hotel Industry

GPHA serves as the voice of the hotel industry throughout the Delaware Valley to the news media and Commonwealth and local elected officials. Our hotel tax funds the Pennsylvania Convention Center, PHLCVB, and Visit Philadelphia which gives us representation on their Boards of Directors. We also serve on several other boards including Independence Visitors Center, Philadelphia Works, Mayor Nutter’s Hospitality Cabinet, Philadelphia Sports Congress, Multicultural Affairs Congress, and Valley Forge Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association serves the interests of more than 90 hotels, including all Center City properties, and 140+ allied members throughout the Delaware Valley.


The result: our hotel members offer visitors more than 30,000 guestrooms and employ 14,000 residents.

Stars of the Industry

The OUTSTANDING OF THE YEAR (SOI) AWARD is the most prestigious and comprehensive program of its kind in the lodging industry. The purpose of the Awards is to recognize outstanding accomplishments and quality service in the lodging industry. This is a terrific evening that was attended by nearly 300 GPHA members and industry leaders. You don’t want to miss it!

Year-Round Networking Receptions and Events

Join us at the reception for an evening of networking. Make new contacts and business connections at this networking event offered to GPHA members.

Annual Golf Outing

Each spring, GPHA offers the opportunity for individuals to meet, mingle, and golf with General Managers and Department Heads from the many hotels and businesses in the Philadelphia area. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Michael M. Boyle Scholarship program.

Alex's Lemonade Stand Weekend

GPHA and the hotel community participate in Alex's Lemonade Stand Weekend, typically the second weekend in June, by setting up stands in and around our hotel properties to raise money towards pediatric cancer research at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

GPHA believes the best way to help our visitors to the Philadelphia region is to provide the best product and service they have ever experienced. How do we learn what is and is not working for them?


By talking to one another. GPHA hosts six major events, and about a dozen other less formal events, for the hospitality industry to meet and discuss what they are seeing and hearing within their own properties.
